Today’s picture is related to another work on paper, Luni Heartbeat is another result of the regular (and already mentioned) trips to Italy. I owe a great deal to Sue Disley, who owns a place there – one that I’ve returned to many times over the past three decades. It is situated in the Lunigiana area that sits at the edge of Northern Tuscany and spills into Liguria.
Although there were still hiccups and setbacks the hard work at Derby had paid off by this point, the School had stabilised and I was able to find time for my own practice again, to do a little teaching and even take out time to be involved in extra curricular activities. One of which In-Transit was a show that came off the back of a residency at the Kunstcentrum in Leiden by a member of the Derby staff – John France. John organised the exhibition at the studios there and a group of us went to visit, instal and open the show. It gave me a chance to show some of the larger canvases of the previous two years.
